Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Jewish Family & Children's Service

Welcome Baby! is a home-visiting program staffed by trained and supervised volunteers. Welcome Baby! visitors welcome families to the Jewish and interfaith community with a one-time home visit, gift package, and resource guides to programs and events in the local area. Visits are available to families with at least one Jewish parent and biological or adopted babies that are six months and younger.

The program is looking for friendly, compassionate volunteers to conduct a one-time visit with a Jewish or interfaith family in the Boston area. Some knowledge of Jewish customs and traditions is helpful. Volunteers may manage one or more visits per month.

The gift packages and resource guides are supplied by JF&CS - volunteers come to our office to pick up enough supplies to assemble four packages.

This position requires up to one hour per visit (plus travel time) and is ongoing. There is a one-time initial training of two hours and quarterly meetings for volunteers.

Volunteer Requirements

  • Attend a one-time, 2-hour training
  • Have knowledge of Jewish customs and traditions
  • Commit to providing at least one visit per month for a minimum of six months
  • Provide a minimum of two references
  • Undergo a CORI check

About Jewish Family & Children's Service

Location:

1430 Main Street, Waltham, MA 02451, US

Mission Statement

Jewish Family & Children's Service (JF&CS) cares for individuals and families by providing exceptional human service and health care programs, guided by Jewish traditions of social responsibility, compassion, and respect for all members of the community.

Description

For almost 150 years, Jewish Family & Children's Service has been the safety net for over 30,000 individuals and families in 80 Greater Boston communities. Since its inception, the focus of JF&CS has been to support our friends and neighbors through difficult life transitions and times of personal crisis, offering programs and services for every stage of life.

JF&CS is especially responsive to the needs of vulnerable members of our community: newborns and their parents, individuals with development disabilities or persistent mental illness, families at risk and the frail elderly. What makes our continuum of programs unique is our steadfast dedication to caring not only for the physical and economic health of individuals and families, but also for their emotional and spiritual well-being.

JF&CS is always ready to respond, no matter how difficult the problem and regardless of a person's background or ability to pay.
