Summer 2015 Internship Opportunities
The Organization
The American Red Cross exists to provide compassionate care to those in need. The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disasters; supplies about 40 percent of the nation's blood; teaches skills that save lives; provides international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a not-for-profit organization that depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission.
The Internship
The American Red Cross offers exceptional undergraduate and graduate students internship opportunities at our Red Cross national headquarters in Washington, D.C. and in chapters across the country through our Internship Program. Interns are matched with a specific department where they work on advancing critical projects.
The overall aim of the program is to attract a pool of diverse, skilled, enthusiastic young professionals and provide them with an opportunity to build a long-term, substantive life-long relationship with the Red Cross.
The Development Internship is an unpaid internship where candidates must be enrolled in a degree program at the time of the internship. The opportunity is based in Dallas, TX beginning in June 2015.
This position is located at the American Red Cross in Dallas, TX. If the intern lives in the area there would be potential to extend the position beyond the summer or even begin before June 2015.
Basic Qualifications:
- Undergraduate (Junior or Senior preferred0 pursuing a degree in business, communications, journalism, public relations, non-profit management, or similar field
- Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite with proficient skills using MS Excel and PowerPoint
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment with a demonstrated ability to accomplish multiple task and meet deadlines
- Excellent written/oral communication and interpersonal skills are essential
- Strong attention to detail skill
- Excellent relationship skills and ability to work cross-functionally
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Must be enrolled in a degree program at the time of the internship
The Development Intern reports to the Major Gifts Associate.
Responsibilities:
- Assisting major gift associates with SalesForce relationship management database data cleanup and entry including: creating and maintaining Groups based on Raiser’s Edge historical gift reports provided by the manager, attaching documents to records electronically, cleanup of salutations and address names based on detailed instructions provided by the manager, and other data support.
- Building a major gift prospecting matrix and executing research through searching society magazines, local newspapers and free web sources, that can be used to develop strategic donor touches while also helping facilitate those touches by working with gift officers and assisting in the preparation of cultivation materials
- Donor research including appraisal district research (online), newspaper research including local stories, obituaries, LinkedIn connections, magazine articles (online), and other donor research resources
- Assisting with mailings and preparing donor packets
- Assisting with organizing donor materials closet
- Other duties as assigned
Unpaid Internship
Internship timeframe: Summer 2015 (Jun 2015- Aug 2015)- Option to begin in Spring
Weekly Internship Hours Required: 10-25 hours/week (flexible)
Location: Dallas, TX
Eligible for earning academic credit.
