The Longest Day is a team event to raise awareness and funds for the Alzheimer’s Association. Held annually on summer solstice (June 21), the duration of this sunrise-to-sunset event symbolizes the challenging journey of so many facing Alzheimer’s disease. Teams are encouraged to create their own experience as they fundraise and participate in an activity they love to honor someone facing the disease. Ex: Running, baking, playing bridge, knitting, cycling, etc. The Longest Day is the Alzheimer’s Association’s second signature event and is looking for volunteers to help grow involvement and awareness for this unique event. It was established in 2012 and raised over 2 million dollars in 2014 across the United States and in five countries. This is an exciting new event with tremendous potential for growth. Be a part of the task force and help lead the way for a world without Alzheimer’s! The Longest Day Task Force will be made up of volunteers from Northern California and Northern Nevada and will meet virtually via conference call once a month for 1 hour from January - July. Task Force Responsibilities: Recruitment Recruit new teams (suggested minimum of five per Task Force member). Assist with the marketing and promotion of the event. Brainstorm a target list of potential new teams. Make phone calls, send emails and make in-person visits to prospective teams. Cultivation of new team leads. Cultivate new teams -- thank them when they register Provide ongoing support and fundraising ideas. Communicate with Team Captains on a monthly basis. Thank Team Captains for their efforts and recognize their successes. Retention Connect via email or phone (preferably) with past Team Captains. Ask them to participate again. Discuss how often and which method of contact they prefer. Ask them about their 2014 experience, what went well, what could improve. Provide ongoing support and fundraising ideas as needed. Thank Team Captains for their efforts and recognize their successes. Supportive Role Prepare and send out hand written thank-you notes upon registration and post-event. Research prospective teams online. Gather information for prospective teams and share with the Team Task Force. Send emails to prospective team leads. Mission Statement

The Alzheimer's Association is the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer care, support and research. Our mission: To eliminate Alzheimer's disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health. Our vision, A world without Alzheimer's disease.

Description

We provide programs and support services for patients, families, caregivers, and others in the San Francisco Bay Area affected by Alzheimer's disease and related disorders. Outside the federal government, the Alzheimer's Association is the largest research funder in the country and offers advocacy opportunities to make public policy change.

At the Alzheimer's Association, diversity and inclusion are vital to our mission. The Association leads strategic initiatives to support diversity and a culture of inclusivity. These strategic initiatives also strengthen outreach to all populations, providing communities with resources and support to address the Alzheimer’s crisis. By partnering with organizations locally and nationally to advance diversity and inclusion, the Association can broaden its reach in all communities.
