Work with groups, ages 6 - 18 and seniors. Help them learn and create artworks that raise public consciousness of global poverty, the environment and other important issues.

Creative expression encourages people of all ages to think more deeply about important issues while motivating them to act for positive change.

Participants receive inspiring and valuable instruction on art, effective communication and important social issues. Then they communicate their concerns through drawings, paintings, and other art forms are possible.

They also write letters to their elected representatives, asking for changes in policy that may help millions of people.

These programs allow you to work with youth and/or seniors in nursing homes, community centers, homeless shelters, schools, assisted living facilities and other locations.

IMPORTANT:
For most activities, we require at least a year of experience - and several years for some activities. Except for those with high level, professional skills, we ask most volunteers to average at least 15 hours a week. Some exceptions to these guidelines are possible. You can speak with us about this before you come in.

If possible, please include your resume, and if it's relevant for you, we appreciate a link to samples of your work.

About Hearts and Minds

Location:

3122 Gracefield Rd, 508, Silver Spring, MD 20904, US

Mission Statement

Hearts and Minds is a nonprofit that addresses the structural roots of extreme global poverty and inequality. We work to effectively help solve this challenge through public education and advocacy for reforms including foreign policy in the United States and other wealthy nations to: - Reform policies that subsidize the wealthy and hurt the poor. - Expand cost effective programs that already help millions of people. Together we’ll change the world, empowering the world’s poorest people and those in the wealthier nations to help make the world more sustainable, just, democratic, peaceful and beautiful now and for all future generations.

Description

Founded in 1996, Hearts and Minds volunteers created an online source of inspiration and information on self help and volunteering. Our site promoted involvement in Poverty Alleviation, Human Rights, Equality, The Environment, Addictions and many other areas.

As a nonprofit, nonpartisan, secular organization, our grassroots approach has allowed our volunteers to inspire, educate, advocate and promote change on initiatives and issues that affect millions of people on the planet.

We now focus on helping end extreme global poverty.
