For Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, Join us at the New Rochelle Library for this family-only project and service learning experience.
Volunteers will learn about homelessness and family shelters. Volunteers will hear from staff at a family shelter and what families experience when they do not have a place to live.
Volunteers will put together Bedtime Bags (book, handmade bookmark, toothbrush and toothpaste) for children staying in shelters. Volunteers will make the bookmarks and decorate the bags.
Craft materials, toothpaste and toothbrushes will be provided, but families are asked to bring one new book to put in the bag (we will be using the 6" x 3" x 9" gift bags for this project).
The book can be for a child of any age. Additional books are available for families with more than 1 child.
*This is a family-only project for youth 5 and over with an adult. To sign up, please choose sign up with a team.
Why families only? The goal of this project is not simply to package a large quantity of bedtime bags, but to facilitate a dialogue between parents/grandparents and their children/grandchildren about homelessness in our community and empower them to take further action.
