Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas and Community America Credit Union are excited to announce a new educational and financial opportunity, the Family Financial Transformations program. This program will provide unique services and supports as we hope to break the cycle of poverty in our community and promote ongoing self-sufficiency. This includes a mentor program which will give selected volunteers an opportunity to build a positive relationship with a family who is working through the program. The mentor will be responsible for meeting with an assigned family and working to continue financial planning (which will be initiated and supported by CACU), work through challenges which may arise, and coach mentees through growth in financial success. Training will provide specific perimeters for the volunteer to operate under. Volunteers interested will be asked to "interview" due to the commitment and nature of the position.

Skills and Knowledge:

• Strong financial literacy and knowledge base- tracking spending, budgeting and sound understanding of credit
• Positive communication skills
• Writing skills for all documentation
• Ability to maintain a professional relationship
• Experience and commitment to working with diverse populations

Time Commitment:

• Nine month commitment to program
• Initial 1 hour training session and ongoing training as needed
• Contact with mentee family: time commitment is once a month for about 9 months

Other:

• Confidentiality agreement must be signed and maintained, even after exiting the program
• Communication to program manager about ongoing relationship, including any issues that arise or significant changes that may occur.
