The Day Center of Evergreen is an important community resource for older adults, and a branch of the senior center, The Commons of Evergreen. We offer outstanding assisted care for older adults each weekday. The Day Center is a leader in community-based care for individuals with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias. This care allows people to live in their choice of residence as long as possible, while allowing their caregivers some much deserved respite. Participants engage in meaningful and therapeutic activities that help to meet their social, emotional and physical needs. We depend heavily on volunteers to assist our staff in offering our activities. Volunteers help us as a 'teacher’s aide’; they keep games and activities going and help participants join in. Over the lunch hour volunteers facilitate and serve and then enjoy a complementary meal while socializing with participants. Volunteers can also share their talents by leading activities. There is a two hour orientation before starting. We are always able to be flexible, but we find that volunteers and participants have the best experience when volunteers can make a commitment to volunteer regularly.
