JOB SUMMARY: Perform essential back and front office functions that enable ECS to run and operate, such as accounting, public relations and communication, volunteer management, and technology support. Participate in staff meetings to understand the Board’s objectives and discuss how to meet weekly / monthly / quarterly goals. Provide a consistent number of volunteer hours each week. Promote the overall mission and vision of ECS and help establish the organization as a high quality, welcoming, community resource. This position is unpaid and does not offer benefits. RESPONSIBILITIES: -Perform tasks and meet goals of assigned office function. -Manage personnel and office resources needed for assigned office function. Work with Community Director to acquire new and / or update resources and recruit new team members. -Maintain program/client confidentiality and treat each individual with dignity and respect. -Establish a welcoming environment that invites participation and partnership by all members of the community. -Participate in bi-weekly staff meetings, individual coaching sessions with Community Director, and staff trainings as required. -Perform other duties as assigned by the Community Director. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: -At least two years work or volunteer experience in an office environment, especially performing work related to assigned role. -Associates degree in related field. -Excellent verbal and written communication in English. -Proficient in Microsoft Office programs. -Excellent organizational skills. -Ability to work both independently with considerable self-direction and as a contributing member of a team. -Available to work a flexible work schedule including some weekends or evenings as necessary. -Must pass Washington State Patrol background check. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: -Excellent verbal and written communication in Amharic. Proficiency in any other Ethiopian language also preferred. -Bachelor's degree in related field. -Three to five years of work or volunteer experience in an office environment with management responsibilities.

Description

The Ethiopian Community in Seattle (ECS) has been an operational agency for the refugees and immigrants of Ethiopia and African descents in Seattle since 1983. It was organized by a group of immigrants who volunteered their time, energy and financial resources to assist their fellow Ethiopians during hard times. This noble beginning developed until the organization officially registered as a 501(C)3 non-profit organization under the laws of the State of Washington.
