JOB SUMMARY:

Promote the overall mission and vision of ECS and help establish the organization as a high quality, welcoming, community resource. Manage all volunteer processes, resources, and activities. Oversee end-to-end volunteer recruitment, placement, training, and evaluation processes. Provide leadership to volunteers as they perform their various roles. Provide regular feedback and insight to ECS leadership team regarding individual volunteers and their efforts and activities.

This position is unpaid and does not offer benefits.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Primary Responsibilities

-Maintain all volunteer materials and resources, including volunteer orientation and trainings, job descriptions, and applications / forms.

-Work with Community Director to determine volunteer needs.

-Advertise for open volunteer positions and manage candidate responses.

-Interview and select volunteers for open roles.

-Conduct orientations and trainings for volunteers.

-Supervise volunteers and provide constructive feedback to improve performance.

-Distribute, collect, and analyze volunteer evaluation forms to improve volunteer services and roles.

-Maintain volunteer database to keep track of volunteers, contact information, and roles.

-Record volunteer attendance and hours. Provide volunteer hours to Community Director for funding purposes.

-Organize and attend quarterly volunteer recruitment events at local schools, religious institutions, community events, etc.

-Organize and lead annual volunteer event at ECS to recruit and train volunteers.

Other Responsibilities

-Provide regular feedback and insight to ECS leadership team regarding individual volunteers and their efforts and activities.

-Meet regularly with Community Director to provide feedback and insight regarding individual volunteers and their efforts and activities.

-Maintain program/client confidentiality and treat each individual with dignity and respect.

-Establish a welcoming environment that invites participation and partnership by all members of the community.

-Participate in bi-weekly staff meetings, individual coaching sessions with Community Director, and staff trainings as required.

-Perform other duties as assigned by the Community Director.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

-At least two years of volunteer experience at a non-profit organization, with at least one year of volunteer management / coordination responsibilities.

-Associate Degree required.

-Strong verbal and written communication skills in English. Ability to communicate with individuals from a wide range of backgrounds.

-Proficient in Microsoft Office programs and other computer programs.

-Excellent organization and people management skills.

-Ability to work both independently with considerable self-direction and as a contributing member of a team.

-Ability to complete paperwork thoroughly and accurately.

-Must past Washington State Patrol Background check.

-Available to work a flexible work schedule, including some weekends or evenings, as necessary.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

-B.A. degree in related field.

-Two years human resources experience, which includes creating job descriptions, interviewing and placing candidates, and providing supervision and performance reviews for volunteers.

-Strong verbal and written communication skills in Amharic. Proficiency in other Ethiopian languages.

-Experience as a board or executive team member, especially in the non-profit sector.

The Ethiopian Community in Seattle (ECS) has been an operational agency for the refugees and immigrants of Ethiopia and African descents in Seattle since 1983. It was organized by a group of immigrants who volunteered their time, energy and financial resources to assist their fellow Ethiopians during hard times. This noble beginning developed until the organization officially registered as a 501(C)3 non-profit organization under the laws of the State of Washington.
