ORGANIZATION: Ethiopian Community in Seattle

JOB SUMMARY: Promote the overall mission and vision of ECS and help establish the organization as a high quality, welcoming, community resource. Manage the weekly seniors lunch program to promote community amongst senior ECS members. Manage meal preparation, set up, and clean up. Promote and manage attendance at meals, including recording attendance to report for grant funding. This position is unpaid and does not offer benefits. RESPONSIBILITIES: -Organize at least two seniors lunches per week. -Manage kitchen staff to ensure groceries are purchased, food is prepared on time for each lunch, and kitchen is cleaned after each use. -Manage supply of plates, cups, cutlery, napkins, and other dining supplies. -Manage set up and clean up of dining area. -Communicate weekly lunch schedule to seniors and remind them and their families of lunches. -Record attendance at each meal and provide to Community Director to secure funding. -Be a friendly resource and companion for seniors before, during, and after meals. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: -Two years organizing community activities (such as meals, socials, or fundraising events), preferably with and for seniors -Friendly and positive attitude while working and socializing with seniors. -Excellent organizational skills. -Fluent in Amharic. -Ability to manage team members. -Ability to attend all organized meals from preparation through clean up. -Must past Washington State Patrol Background check. -Valid Driver license. Reliable transportation.

Description

The Ethiopian Community in Seattle (ECS) has been an operational agency for the refugees and immigrants of Ethiopia and African descents in Seattle since 1983. It was organized by a group of immigrants who volunteered their time, energy and financial resources to assist their fellow Ethiopians during hard times. This noble beginning developed until the organization officially registered as a 501(C)3 non-profit organization under the laws of the State of Washington.
