Women's Residential Services (WRS)
"We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty." -Maya Angelou

We welcome donations of items that women would enjoy OR can assist them in their residential stay (they live here up to 3 months). There are a list of "wishes" for donation items that we can always use to help the residents to have a more comfortable stay, or to motivate them in making positive life choices, this list can be found at www.lakecountyil.gov/WRS

We are always looking for people who have skills or talents they want to share with our residents as well. Our ladies are learning new skills every day and if you would like to sponsor an activity, educate about a life skill, or train our residents in an area, let us know and we can see what we can arrange to make it happen.

We have opportunities for all who want to help- ongoing or one-time events. We thank you for your interest in making the world a better place for all.

Mission Statement

Healthy people. Healthy choices.
Healthy Lake County

Description

WRS is a Dual Diagnosis Capable
(DDC) residential treatment
program for chemically dependent
women and their children. Priority is
given to pregnant and parenting
women and intravenous drug using
women. Individualized treatment
focuses on two main areas:
developing a chemical-free lifestyle
through building recovery and
resiliency skills and improving
parenting skills. WRS can accept up
to eight children between the ages
of 6 and 11.
At WRS, treatment is firmly based on
empowerment - helping a woman
discover the power within her directly,
accepting responsibility for her life
and moving forward by making
positive, healthy choices.
Through education, individual and
group counseling, and peer support,
WRS residents gain the keys needed
to unlock this power: self-love and
self-respect. This is made possible
by the secure environment that WRS
provides with caring, understanding,
and dignity.
Because chemical dependency is an
illness that harms the whole family,
WRS works with mothers and their
children to strengthen their
relationships. Mothers improve their
parenting skills and learn to take
responsibility for their children.
Mothers and children receive help in
healing family wounds and forming a
closer bond.
Staff members strive to give women
the tools they need for recovery,
redirecting their lives, and returning
them to independent living.
