World War I Trench
Just one of the many interactive galleries and dioramas at the Armed Forces History Museum.

The AFHM is currently seeking outgoing individuals to become docents and provide tours for the school and adult group trips we book throughout the year. No previous knowledge or experience is necessary, simply a passion to become involved with the museum and a desire to educate our public and youth on the many sacrifices made by our military to insure our continued freedom. We will provide training.

Mission Statement

The Armed Forces History Museum is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit IRS approved organization dedicated to honorably preserving history and providing education to the youth and public of the many sacrifices made to protect our freedom. The museum is committed, through its collections and outreach, to being a vital partner in the cultural life of the Tampa Bay and Central Florida communities and strives to achieve this goal through the highest professional standards in keeping with military tradition.

Description

The multi award-winning and critically acclaimed Armed Forces History Museum was established in 8/2008 and boasts the largest collection of military memorabilia in the Southeast within 50,000 sq. ft. of indoor and outdoor space.

The musuem takes you on a journey through history beginning with the WWI trench up through present day conflict. You'll experience the feel of the trench, view actual film footage from the attack on Pearl Harbor, witness a number of fully operational vehicles, tanks, etc. and even peer through a working 42' foot submarine periscope. You'll hear the stories as told by the veterans themselves who recount their experiences from the front lines and listen to radio transmission emanating from a WWII communications center. Learn about Tampa Bays own war hero who posthumously received the Medal of Honor and learn about the incredible conditions our soldiers fought as you view the diorama of the Frozen Chosin. You'll walk the Ho Chi Minh trail as two vietnamese gaze from one side and American GI's trudge through a river on the other, carrying a wounded comrad. Pay tribute to our POWs and MIAs and see one of Saddam Hussein's uniforms. Ride our virtual voyager or climb on board and go for a ride on a WWII M8 Reconnaisance Vehicle. All this and much more awaits as you step into the past and honor the men and women who have served our country.
