Job Summary:
The Employment Services Intern will work directly with community members to help them search and apply for jobs, as well as develop skills and tools to succeed in the American workplace. The intern will gain increased intercultural communication competency, group facilitation skills, knowledge of non-profit operations, and a deeper understanding of refugee backgrounds, skills sets, and language capabilities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assist in facilitating Job Club, an employment training program
• Help community members develop and practice interview skills
• Assist community members in designing resumes, as well as searching and applying for jobs
• Help track community member progress and attendance
QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate will have a strong interest and willingness to work with refugees with diverse skills sets, backgrounds, and language capabilities. The candidate will have strong interpersonal and communication skills, and ideally have experience tutoring/teaching individually or in small group settings.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
• The individual must perform his or her responsibilities competently and in a positive manner. Each intern/volunteer will be assigned a supervisor to help them set goals in an effort to facilitate growth and improvement.
• All volunteers/interns are required to work in a confidential manner in all aspects of their work and abide by organizational policies.
• All volunteers/interns must submit a background check before starting.
TIME REQUIREMENTS:
12-16 hours/week; 4-month minimum
