Our recruitment for Vietnamese Interpreters will be for our developing Education Navigation Services (ENS) program, which focuses on assisting immigrant students who are English language learners and their monolingual parents. ENS serves as a bridge experience for newcomer, immigrant students, and their families to promote communication, information sharing, understanding, and collaboration among the child, school, and family. The Vietnamese Interpreters would be interpreting to communicate between the student, school, parents, and the ENS team, which includes a licensed school psychologist, a clinical social work, and two project coordinators. The topics would include psycho-social, emotional, behavioral, and academic issues regarding the student's environmental adjustment and any difficulties in their academic performance. The interpreter will also assist in relaying information about resources to the parents if necessary (such as educating parents on the American school system). There is a 6-month time commitment with a minimum of 4-6 hours a week, and the location would consist of at least half in home visits and half at the school location area (most likely in the Santa Clara/San Jose area).
