Are you passionate about social justice and supporting the potential of young people? Venice YouthBuild is a program of Venice Community Housing that provides low-income 18-24 year olds the opportunities to obtain their high school diplomas and receive vocational training while becoming leaders in their lives and communities.

VOLUNTEER DESCRIPTIONS

We are seeking the following types of volunteers:

1. Math or English Tutors

- Tutor individuals and small groups to prepare them for the Math or English California High School Exit Exam.

2. Career Center Volunteers

- Update job, career and college opportunities on our internal website and job boards.

- Mentor and support students with job searches, mock interviewing, college enrollment and career advice.

3. Community Service Event Volunteers

- Join us on Service Fridays to help expand our impact.

- Role model volunteerism and professionalism while supporting student leadership.

4. Teacher Assistants

- Assist staff with duties such as filing, copying and organizing.

- Volunteer in the classroom at least once a week, assist students with classwork and help promote program values and policies.

5. Extra Curricular Volunteers

- Support student elective groups as a mentor or workshop facilitator. Areas of interest include art, gardening, music, athletics, cooking, construction and community advocacy.

QUALIFICATIONS

- Age 18 or older.

- Cleared background check

- Experience with mentoring low-income, transitioning young adults.

- Experience in volunteer area of interest.

- Willingness to commit to volunteering for at least 2 months unless offering a one-time service.

- If interested in tutoring, BA is preferred but AA will be considered.
