Seeking an executive Director of StandUp For Kids--DC

(This is a volunteer / pro-bono position)

Duties:

  • Carry out and periodically review the strategic plan, with support from other volunteer directors
  • Develop annual budget and fundraising efforts to reach strategic goals, with support from other volunteer directors
  • Train and recruit additional members of the leadership team and advisory council
  • Form partnerships with organizations, community officials, and funders, with support from other volunteer directors
  • Adapt and maintain a uniform set of policies and procedures for all levels of program operations in line with local program needs and national requirements
  • Supervise volunteer directors in outreach, volunteer management, marketing, fundraising, and other areas of program support
  • Prepare reports for stakeholders (tracking outcomes, donations, program news, etc), with support from other volunteer directors

Requirements:

  • The necessary skillsto carry out the strategic plan
    • Enthusiastic team player able to work effectively with both the leadership team and volunteers
    • Demonstrably strong leadership ability
    • Consistent delegation of appropriate roles and responsibilities to directors
    • Ability to plan and manage work with minimum direction and workspace
    • Superior verbal and written communication skills
    • Excellent organizational and planning skills
    • The necessary personal attributesto fulfill the mission
      • Genuine kindness, resourcefulness, and tenacity
      • Strong sense of personal integrity
      • Sincere belief in and commitment to the mission of the organization
      • Authentic desire to improve the well-being of homeless and street kids
      • The necessary availabilityto commit to the role
        • Ability to serve in this role for a minimum of 12 months, for 10 hours per week, without monetary compensation
        • Ability to meet in person at least once per month with leadership team and once per month with all volunteers

The cover letter should include (a) specific qualifications to lead a volunteer-based, non-profit organization; (b) interest in or past experience with youth homelessness; and (c) discussion of competing responsibilities and assessment of your ability to serve as volunteer / pro-bono director.

Where will I have my next meal? When can I shower? Where will I sleep tonight? We assist homeless youth in tackling some of their everyday obstacles and work towards a life of safety, good health, and connections off the streets.

Description

StandUp for Kids is a national non-profit organization dedicated to ending the cycle of youth homelessness in local communities like ours in Washington, DC and 17 other cities across the country. Since 1990, we have cared for homeless and at-risk youth by transitioning them from crisis to connection. We give our youth a sense of safety, hope, and belonging through housing support, mentoring, drop-in centers, and street outreach. We bear the highest independent ratings for fiscal stewardship of all donations.
