This adaptive skating program promotes playing and socializing at three DCR rinks. Participants with disabilities and their family and friends can come out on the ice in their own wheelchairs, or use the equipment provided: sit skates, conventional skates, sate walkers, and helmets.
Volunteers are needed to help participants get laced up in skates or put on grippers over their shoes to walk on the ice, as well as assisting with transfers into ice sleds, skating with participants, and engaging participants in play. There are a wide variety of toys and games on the ice for participants to use, including hockey nets, pucks, and sticks, and volunteers are encouraged to start up games and strike up conversations and friendships!
