ORGANIZATION: Mission Economic Development Agency

Mission Economic Development Agency (MEDA) is a community-based, local economic development organization which has engaged individuals and small businesses in community-building strategies for over 40 years. MEDA's Technology Program assists parents, families, and individuals in San Francisco to learn how to use computers and the internet, and to integrate these tools into their daily lives. MEDA has an aggressive target to ensure that every child who lives in or goes to school in the Mission has access to a highspeed Internet connection and a computer in the home. We are recruiting Computer Instructors to teach computer classes in order to help our clients learn basic digital literacy, and implement technology into their lives.

Help a new computer user feel confident in developing skills! Instructors will deliver basic and intermediate digital literacy classes, onsite in our technology center. You will work directly with clients, helping inexperienced users to feel more comfortable using computers and the internet.

Mission Statement

The mission of MEDA is to achieve economic justice for San Francisco's low- to moderate-income Latino families through asset development. Asset Development is the process of encouraging and supporting individuals and families to develop, accumulate and manage personal, social and material (especially financial) assets. In the long-term, we envision generations of Latino families that are a part of vibrant, diverse, proud and forward-thinking communities in which residents own their homes and businesses, and are actively engaged in the civic life of their neighborhoods and the institutions that affect their lives. We see these families as having sufficient assets to provide them and future generations with the opportunity to call San Francisco their permanent home.

Description

MEDA is a community-based, local economic development corporation located in the Mission District of San Francisco. For over 40 years MEDA has worked to improve economic and social conditions in the neighborhood by stimulating investment, enhancing the business environment, and creating jobs for area residents. MEDA is committed to maintaining the cultural identity and resources of the Mission District.

MEDA recently launched The Mission Promise Neighborhood, a five year neighborhood initiative funded by the U.S. Department of Education to bring together local nonprofits, public and private partners to work with kids and families to empower the Mission community, break cycles of poverty, and ensure every child can reach their full potential, from cradle to college to career.
