"Girls Who Code" Computer Science Workshop Facilitator (Long-Term Opportunity) Harlem Education Activities Fund (HEAF) is seeking for a Computer Science Volunteer to assist HEAF’s students in their effort to increase knowledge in basic computer programming! HEAF is a comprehensive education and youth development organization that works to help motivated, underserved student develop the intellectual curiosity, academic ability, social values, and personal resiliency they need to ensure success in school, career, and life. HEAF identifies scholars in middle school and supports them until they have successfully graduated from four year colleges through a variety of after-school, Saturday, and summer educational and youth development programs. Beginning in January 2015, HEAF will provide a weekly coding club for girls through a partnership with the national organizations "GirlsWhoCode". The purpose of the club is to close the gender gap in technology, equipping girls with the computing skills to pursue 21 st century opportunities in the STEM fields. Required Skills/Characteristics Volunteer should be proficient in back-end programming language, intermediate knowledge of data structures and algorithms Volunteer will be required to pass the GirlsWhoCode coding quiz to ensure they have they requisite skills needed to efficiently lead the weekly session Volunteer can bring their own laptop/tablet (optional) Volunteer can be current college students, college students, graduate students, or Professional with a Computer Science Background Has a personal interest in education and youth development in technology Patient and personable with youth Must be highly motivated Time Commitment 1 day requirement per week Volunteer is expected to commit from 4:30pm - 6:00pm (1 ½ hr per week) January 15 th - June 15 th Location: HEAF office - 2090 Adam Clayton Powell Blvd 10 th Floor, New York, NY 10027 If you are interested in this opportunity, please complete a volunteer application form http://bit.ly/1pLOshB and email your resume to Immaculee Fabre, Volunteer Engagement Coordinator at volunteer@heaf.org

HEAF is an effective supplemental education and youth leadership nonprofit that works to help high-potential but under-served New York City public school students become high-achieving college graduates. HEAF identifies scholars in middle school and supports them until they are successfully admitted to four-year colleges through a variety of after-school, Saturday, summer, and youth development programs. In the last 15 years, 100% of our students have graduated from high school and 83% of our students have received a degree from college within six years or less.
