Work with middle school students in a state of the art bicycle repair facility. The Bicycle Recycle Project at Seven Hills School in Nevada City provides students hands-on learning of basic bicycle mechanical skills, reinforces the value of recycling, and provides the satisfaction of helping others. Volunteer Bike Shop Assistants practice and perform bicycle maintenance and rebuilding skills. Interest in bicycles as well as some maintenance experience is a plus, but a mechanical aptitude will suffice. Other opportunities (paperwork, grants, sorting, stocking, etc.) also exist.
Where: Seven Hills School, 700 Hoover Lane, Nevada City
When: Weekdays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; shift length and days are flexible
Skills Needed: Basic mechanical skills are helpful, but specific bicycle repair knowledge is not required.

Make a Difference in Your Community!
The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) provides opportunities for people 55 and over to make a difference in their community through volunteer service. RSVP volunteers contribute anywhere from a few to over forty hours a week, serving through schools, day care centers, police departments, hospitals and other nonprofit and public organizations to help meet critical community needs. RSVP offers maximum flexibility and choice to its volunteers. RSVP matches the personal interests and skills of older Americans with opportunities to help solve community problems and offers supplemental insurance while on duty, and on-the-job training from the agency or organization where volunteers are placed.
