Volunteer Job Description

WEB DESIGNER

20 hours

>2 months




MAJOR OBJECTIVE

The volunteer web designer will design and publish a new website for MOCEANS under the direction of the project manager.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience creating modern, high-quality websites for business purposes

  • Understanding of current SEO, coding, and use of features such as gadgets and iFrames

  • Experience building on user-friendly platforms and/or modifying pre-existing code

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Understand MOCEANS mission and effectively communicate same on the website

  • With the guidance and direction of the project manager, create a fully functional website utilizing all modern standards, including but not limited to: online payment processing, social media sharing, responsive design, and using digital images

  • Fully map and test the site prior to publication

  • Create records on the domain to effectuate all features including cross-functionality with outside applications and software

  • Ensure site is properly registered and/or tagged for all search engines and Google Analytics

  • Optional: be available from time to time but no less than annually to test site and/or consult on modifications


ORIENTATION/TRAINING

MOCEANS will provide online training regarding the mission of the Center. On-going training and support will be provided as needed.


TIME AND PLACE

The web designer will work remotely or in office, as desired by the volunteer. The web designer must be available at times during business hours (Mon-Fri, 8:30am-4:00pm ET) to communicate with the project manager.


COMMITMENT

This position requires a commitment of project completion. The duration of the project will be no more than two months but may be completed in much less time depending upon the availability of the web designer.
