Mission Statement

World Assist has recently acquired new leadership and with that change comes a new and exciting vision. World Assist's immediate initiative will be to increase our shipments of relief goods, both domestically and internationally. While ever committed to our mission to relieve the suffering of children and families in developing nations, our focus has expanded to providing shipments of relief supplies to United States veterans, the homeless, and victims of fires and other catastrophes. With the support of our generous donors, World Assist will continue to reach out to people in need, wherever they may be, with help, hope, and compassion.

Description

Veterans Outreach

The fresh initiative of World Assist is to offer comfort and assistance to homeless & low income veterans and their families, as well as to the families of recently deployed soldiers. Through an established network of homeless shelters, transitional housing facilities, local Operation Stand Down events, and American Legion and VFW posts, World Assist sends direct relief to support our nation's heroes and their families. World Assist has adopted the Stand Down motto of "offering a hand up, not a hand out". The distribution of much needed clothing, shelter supplies, and personal care and hygiene products allows both shelters and individuals to direct their minimal financial resources into other areas. These would include housing, food, health care, and education costs.

An estimated 1.5 million veterans and their families are considered to be at risk of homelessness due to poverty, lack of support networks, and overcrowded or sub-standard housing. These daunting figures, combined with the growing number of troops returning home from the Middle East, make this a very important issue.

Children's Outreach

World Assist partners with a local charity which hosts events in schools, community centers, churches, and neighborhoods in western North Carolina and eastern South Carolina. Children and their caregivers are invited to participate in games and activities such as face painting and puppet shows. Each child receives a stuffed animal, books, and a special toy of their very own.

World Assist is committed to helping needy children and will continue to provide shipments of goods to children in need.

Disaster Outreach

The original charitable purpose of World Assist was to offer aid and comfort to children and their families who were disadvantaged or who had been displaced due to famine, natural disasters, or conflict. While this will always be the heart of our mission, World Assist's focus will increasingly include supporting victims of fires, storms, and other catastrophes through the distribution of clothing, emergency blankets, furniture, shelter supplies, and personal care and hygiene items. World Assist remains fully committed to its goal of helping provide humanitarian aid to people in crisis throughout the United States and around the world.
