Are you a person who likes to help? You can make a difference in your local community and help individuals living with Alzheimer's and Dementia have fun!

Alzheimer's Greater Los Angeles is seeking volunteers to facilitate their Memories in the Making fine arts program.

As a Memories in the Making facilitator, you will work with people with Alzheimer’s disease or other related dementias. The MiM program is more than a traditional arts and crafts class or hobby activity, it has been proven to be beneficial and therapeutic and can stimulate the brain of the persons with dementia. Training on how to facilitate this incredible program is provided for free, as well as education on dementia. No artistic skill is required.

Memories in the Making is used as a public awareness tool to educate the community about Alzheimer’s disease. The expressive quality of painting and engaging in the process of making art; people with dementia feel a sense of pleasure and accomplishment at creating something that endures and remains for family and friends.

Our facilitators play a vital role in:

• Providing encouragement
• Creating a non-judgmental atmosphere
• Validating the person with dementia
• We are not teaching art techniques. The focus is on the process of creating.
