Volunteer Activities: Provide the following support functions for Mecklenburg County’s
State certified Air Pollution Control Program:
• Research, format, and compose business letters using applicable Microsoft Office products.
• Review air quality notifications for minimum data requirements. Request & collect additional
information as needed.
• Manage and process workflow using agency’s simple database software.
• Create and maintain electronic and physical record management systems.
• Receive incoming calls and correspondence for agency; taking written information as needed and if appropriate, provides or redirects responses to appropriate department resources.
Providing support to Mecklenburg County Air Quality is an interesting and challenging task. The Administrative Support Assistant is a position that combines program support and administrative duties. Customer service is critical as the position’s customers are both external - the general public and regulated community and internal - staff.
This is a short term assignment that will be attractive to volunteers wishing to maintain/sharpen their customer service skills and improve air quality through support of the permitting, enforcement and outreach staff. There will be opportunities (if interested) to attend and assist with environmental education events and/or facility inspections in addition to the routine administrative tasks.
