In 2014 the New York City Transit Authority ran their "train of many metals" (the railfan nickname for the Rockaway Special heritage train) which included an R-16 running for the first time in nearly 30 years. This in turn attracted new fans to the R-16 here in Kingston. Several work days were organized to do work on the R-16 and the car was opened to the public in 2015. Now other subways cars in the collection are being worked on. We can use people of all skills and skill levels to continue the momentum of this reinvigorated restoration. Tasks can be socially-distanced for Covid-19 safety.

The collection of artifacts will include trolley and rail operating equipment, archival materials, and objects related to trolley and rail history. Materials, equipment an objects of significance to Kingston, the Hudson Valley Region and New York City are of particular interest.
The Museum will collect and maintain a library and archive collection which will be available to the public for research. It will foster an enhanced public awareness of the influence of trolleys and urban rail transportation on the cities, and help explore the sociological, logistical and developmental impacts that this new mobility had on urban dwellers.
The Museum will exhibit, restore and operate appropriate pieces of its motive equipment and display static exhibits which will provide educational and recreation experiences for visitors. Through programs, lectures, publications and special events, the museum will augment its efforts to provide a meaningful education experience for its visitors and those who use it as a resource.
