Working in conjunction with the highly respected NGO, Amigos de Sian Ka’an, your time in Mexico will be spent diving and monitoring a portion of the spectacular Mesoamerican Barrier Reef; south of Tulum and within the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve. Through this partnership you can be sure your efforts are making a serious and measurable impact. Focussing on fish and coral surveys you will spend the majority of your time exploring this special underwater environment while also witnessing turtle nesting and hatching (seasonal) and the odd dolphin and shark encounter. Your help will also be required in the local community, teaching English and environmental awareness. With easy access to Tulum and Playa Del Carmen, off time can be spent visiting Mayan ruins, cenote diving and immersing yourself in the local culture and rich heritage.
Specific skills required: Good level of English Fluency and enthusiasm, our staff will teach you the rest. If coming for less than 8 weeks, you must already be a qualified diver. You must also be able to swim.
Specific requirements: The volunteer is required to organise their own flights and insurance and cover the cost of their program.
