Come volunteer with YEAH! (Youth Engagement Advocacy Housing), Berkeley's only shelter for transitional age youth (18-25). We assist young people who are currently homeless by providing basic relief from the stress of living on the street. We are also dedicated to co-creating a community of mutual support and respect.

YEAH! has a number of volunteer opportunities, but we especially need folks to serve dinner and run our shower log in the evenings! Both of these volunteer opportunities are essential to helping the shelter run smoothly. YEAH!'s shelter is open from 8:00pm to 8:00am every day. We serve dinner and breakfast, folks can shower and do their laundry, and we offer a warm and safe place for young adults who are currently homeless to sleep at night.

Serving Dinner: 7:45pm - 10:15pm
There will have already been a volunteer cooking shift, and then you would come to distribute it! Dinner servers serve up every plate so that we ensure there is enough for everyone, and they wash dishes and make sure the kitchen is cleaned up at the end of the night. This position is vital to making sure that everyone is able to eat and that the shelter is kept up!

Shower Station Attendent (Berg Room): 8:15pm - 10:15pm
This position is a huge help in making sure that the evening runs smoothly. This person helps out in the lobby area of the shelter, and they are in charge of the shower log and making sure that the line up for the two showers moves along well. They also assist the front-line staff with helping people get access to the donations area, allowing people to do laundry, and they are an extra set of hands and eyes to help out in general! This position is a huge help in making sure that the evening goes smoothly!
