Mission Statement
The Arthritis Foundation's mission is to improve lives through leadership in the prevention, control and cure of arthritis and related diseases.
Description
The Arthritis Foundation of New Mexico supports just over 400,000 adults and over 3,000 children living with arthritis. These New Mexicans suffer from over 100 possible types of arthritis, including autoimmune diseases such as Fibromyalgia, Lupus and more. Over 2/3 of people diagnosed with Arthritis is under the age of 60 and it is the leading cause of disability. It’s so much larger than most people realize.
Some of the programs and services that we offer New Mexicans include aquatic and land exercise, walk with ease walking program, tai chi, nutrition, support groups, continuing education and a Juvenile Arthritis Camp which is held every summer. Our children from all over the state spend a week at our JA camp with specially trained counselors and a nurse. While attending camp, they enjoy horseback riding, swimming, crafts, hiking and many other activities allowing them the chance to just "be kids".
To fund these programs, we have two large fundraisers each year. Jingle Bell Run/Walk in July and the Bone Bash in October.
