We are looking for energetic persons interested in teaching a group of students grades 8-12 that are learning HTML/CSS & intro JavaScript. Classroom sizes vary from 5-10 students. The curriculum is created, it's there for you to guide, enhance & facilitate learning with the students. All they need is You!

Expertise or knowledge of SQL, C#/PhP/Java languages are also taught in more advanced classes each year beyond this introductory course.

We are looking for persons interested in leading or assisting our existing HTML / CSS & JavaScript classes. Students are new to these languages and any person with professional or classroom experience can be a VALUABLE addition to the #BDPA volunteer instructor teams. Classes run Saturdays 10-2 (or a weekday evening) from February to April each year. We are currently running our program at Metro State University - East St. Paul Campus & other locations Across the Midwest.

News! We have virtualized the STEM-based program on Moodle offering standardized curriculum for courses run at community centers across the Twin Cities, Indianapolis, Dayton Ohio & Bloomington Illinois! We need volunteers willing to help students in communities where we live across the USA. #BDPA has chapters in 45 cities so we hope to expand nationally!

BDPA is the premiere all volunteer African-American professional I/T networking organization that trains students (high school, adults, & Vets) from all ethnicities, with a focus on students from under-represented ethnicities in the field of I/T. Help give kids options and choice in their pursuit of education and career opportunities.

One person can make a change to better the world, one student at a time. Please consider this opportunity today. Thank you.

Description

We are here on VolunteerMatch in search of brothers and sisters that want to support local information technology (IT) professionals and increase the number of historically underrepresented persons of color in Computer Science and IT.

As a volunteer, you would be asked to support us in a variety of ways, including: monthly presentations on leading-edge topics in IT; career transition sessions for members interested in changing their profession; and community outreach -- "hands-on" computer skills training for youth, working adults and small business owners.

BDPA is making a significant impact in the community through programs such as the High School Technology Program, High School Computer Competition Team and Professional IT workshops. BDPA believes that computer literacy is not an "optional" skill. Computer technology is intertwined within the fabric of daily life for most Americans regardless of age, sex, gender or race. Everyone must have more than a basic understanding of computers.

I hope that you take a moment to let us know more about you ... where you live ... whether or not you think BDPA might have a place in your volunteer efforts ... just let us know that we are not alone in our efforts to bridge the so-called 'digital divide'!
