I-HELP stands for the Interfaith Homeless Emergency Lodging Program, a collaborative effort to alleviate homelessness in Tempe. I-HELP partners with area faith communities, business, and non-profit agencies to provide housing from 4pm until 8am for ~35 individuals experiencing homelessness. Individuals can be male or female, must be over the age of 18 and must be drug free and sober at the intake time.
The Employment Specialist volunteer will assist I-HELP participants at the Escalante Computer Center in their pursuit of employment by teaching basic skills in resume writing, job searching and interviewing techniques. The Employment Lab is operated on Monday & Friday mornings from 8:30-10:30am.
Major Duties include:
- Teaching applicants how to utilize internet job sites for employment opportunities
- Basic resume and cover letter edits/enhancements
- Teach job readiness skills, including proper etiquette, work ethics, dress, and hygiene for interviewing
(Volunteer training provided)
Volunteer must:
- Desire to work with homeless/low-income individuals in a non-judgmental attitude
- Understand setting boundaries
- Have basic computer competency

Description
TCAA is Tempe's primary "safety net", providing basic needs and emergency assistance for low income and elderly community members, while encouraging self-reliance. The Community Action Program provides rent / utility assistance, food boxes, career services, cooking on a budget, community garden, homeless prevention, and pre-natal services. The Senior Action Program provides social activities, congregate meals, and home delivered meals.
