We are looking for a talented individual who is willing to devote some of their time mending a few simple costumes located in our Haudenosaunee Room. Our costumes, which are on display for all guests to try on, have grown worn from the constant use and handing by visitors and children and are in need of some simple mending. Your expertise will help us to continue to educate visitors on the life of 19th century women in a fun and creative way!

Mission Statement

The mission of the Matilda Joslyn Gage Foundation is to promote an increased understanding of the life, work and times of Matilda Joslyn Gage and to own and maintain her historic home for research, programming and informational outreach.

Description

The Matilda Joslyn Gage Foundation owns and operates the historic family home of the Matilda Joslyn Gage, abolitionist leader and women's rights activitist who lived from 1826 - 1898.

Ms. Gage lived at 210 E. Genesee Street in Fayetteville, NY from 1854 until her death in 1898. A visit to the newly restored Gage Center provides a new lens through which to view the world. Interactive exhibits, living history interpreters and trained facilitators engage visitors in thoughtful dialogue and inspire each visitor to think for themselves and reflect on their own values.

The home features six themed areas, five of which document Ms. Gage's life work: Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) values and Native Sovereignty, Women's Rights, Underground Railroad and abolition, Religious Freedom, the Family/OZ Parlor and Local history.

The Gage home is the only place in the country where someone can visit a home where L. Frank Baum, author of the Wizard of Oz, and his wife and children lived.
