Butterfly Monitors are needed to collect data on local species using a standardized protocol at our forest preserves.
Learn all about Winnebago County butterflies while helping us evaluate trends in our changing landscapes through a partnership between the Forest Preserves of Winnebago County and the Illinois Butterfly Network!
Kieselburg Forest Preserve (5801 Swanson Road, Roscoe, IL 61073)
Sugar River Alder Forest Preserve (16902 Beacon Light Rd, Shirland, IL 61079)
A maximum of two volunteers are required at each site. All other applicants will be added to a waiting list as other monitoring sites become available. On-going training and support from the Illinois Butterfly Monitoring Network leaders will be provided.
Requirements:
- FPWC Volunteer Application must be completed no later than Monday, January 5, 2015(may be completed on-line at www.winnebagoforest.org - Contact Us - Volunteer)
- Initial volunteer orientation must be scheduled and completed with FPWC Volunteer Coordinator (approx. 45 minutes)
- Required attendance at Butterfly Monitoring Training - Saturday, January 17, 2015 (time TBD)
- Six to eight site visits conducted between May 25 (Memorial Day) and August 8, 2015 on specified forest preserve route
- 1-2 hour survey on each visit
- Data to be submitted on-line as directed in training
