FAQs

Who does our service benefit?

Your helping hands help thousands of Cambridge and Somerville families in need. To see what our wonderful volunteers did last year and who we helped, read this. Your donations of food, clothing and books are greatly valued by our food pantries, clothing exchanges and literacy organizations.

Can we bring kids?

Yes! We've designed the projects to encourage even the littlest hands to be able to participate. We have had children as young as 2 and seniors 90 lend their generous hands in service.

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?

The best way to come is by MBTA - by subway or the #1 bus. We're at Central Square on the Red Line. There are municipal parking lots nearby as well.

About Many Helping Hands 365

Location:

℅ Cambridge Community Foundation, 99 Bishop Allen Drive, Cambridge, MA 02139, US

Mission Statement

The primary goal of Many Helping Hands 365 is to serve the City’s underserved, disadvantaged and disenfranchised children, teens and adults through hands on community service and by increasing active engagement and local volunteerism to help those in need in Cambridge.

Description

Many Helping Hands meets both immediate and ongoing long-term needs in the community. For example, to meet immediate needs we collect and distribute food, winter clothing and toiletries to every food pantry and homeless shelter in Cambridge. Scarves made at MLK Day of Service are distributed to every homeless person found sleeping on the street during the late night January homeless census. To meet long-term needs, we make and distribute blankets for children in Cambridge and Somerville homeless shelters, bookmarks for children and adults in local literacy programs, and collect and distribute books for low-income children. We also reach out to provide Valentine cards to isolated elderly and veterans.

The volunteer website, ManyHelpingHands365.org, makes it easier for people to find local volunteer needs throughout the year.

In 2014, MLK Day of Service reached more than 7000 people in need through more thna 70 local organizations and agencies.
