INTERNSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT :

Water Advocacy & Education Intern

(Part-Time, Unpaid)

Do you want an internship where you are a part of a team of energetic people? Where you are growing professionally while making a difference?

This is the internship for you! We offer mentorships, trainings, professional development, snacks, and more! We are proud to have one of the best internship programs in the environmental field today.

The Loma Prieta Chapter is a leader in responding to climate change and brings the slogan "think global, act local" to life in the Silicon Valley. Leveraging the success of our Water Committee, we are focusing on identifying and building the most effective campaigns on water issues within our chapter. Potential issues/campaigns include: Organizing creek cleanups, a watershed conference, and water fluoridation education and awareness.

We are seeking motivated, friendly and creative individuals to support our water advocacy efforts. Water Advoacy Interns work closely with Conservation Program staff, the chapter’s Water Committee, to advocate for local policies to minimize negative impacts to our watersheds and riparian habitats alongside our advocacy partners.

An ideal candidate...

  • Education: Has or is pursuing a degree in Environmental Studies, Biology, Hydrology, or a related degree
  • Strong communication skills
  • Available to come to our office in Palo Alto for at least 4 months, 8-12 hours a week, Monday-Friday, during business hours (some work can be done out of the office)
  • Has passion and the drive to take action on local environmental issues and uphold Sierra Club sustainability goals

Key Responsibilities:

  • Join and provide support to our Water Committee focus their campaign goals and implement them
  • Develop print and on-line resources for water advocacy education
  • Available to come to our office in Palo Alto for at least 4 months, 8-12 hours a week, Monday-Friday, during business hours (some work can be done out of the office)
  • Organize and facilitate local educational workshops on water issues
  • Recruit and engage new volunteers
  • Organize creek clean-ups, conferences, local house parties, and/or public presentations
  • Write articles, op-eds, and letters to the editor in local media sources
  • Data entry and other administrative support
  • Website maintenance
  • Other tasks as assigned
  • Passion and the drive to take action on local environmental issues and uphold Sierra Club sustainability goals

The Sierra Club Loma Prieta Chapter organizes outdoor recreation for people of all ages, advocates for policies that protect our natural environment, supports environmental candidates for public office, and provides opportunities for people who want to develop leadership skills to give back to the community and help the environment.
