Become a trained income tax preparer through the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program. Then join us to prepare tax returns for members of New York's underserved communities and help put money in the hands of low-income New Yorkers. New tax volunteers will attend an information session to learn how to become a certified tax preparer. All volunteers are required to complete the IRS online training and a one-day or two-evening comprehensive practice session. Once trained you be able to sign up for a tax preparation site in the Bronx, Manhattan, Queens or Brooklyn. Volunteers commit to a weekly evening, daytime or weekend shift for the tax season.
All volunteers (18 and over only) must attend both a New York Cares general orientation and a Tax Information Session. You can do both at the same time, click here for the list.

New York Cares is New York City's leading volunteer organization.
Founded in 1987, New York Cares enables more than 54,000 volunteers each year to serve on flexibly-scheduled, team-based projects serving schools, social service agencies, and other deserving organizations.
New York Cares volunteers tutor children, feed the hungry, assist people living with HIV/AIDS, revitalize gardens, take homeless children on recreational outings, visit the elderly, and do so much more.
In addition to year-round volunteer programs, New York Cares organizes four large scale service events every year: New York Cares Day Fall, New York Cares Day Spring, Winter Wishes, and Coat Drive.
