WBHI Door-to-Door Outreach

The Women’s Breast & Heart Initiative is a non-profit organization dedicated to connecting at-risk women with the prevention and early detection to beat breast cancer and heart disease.

Volunteers are the cornerstone of our mission. WBHI outreach volunteers educate women about the importance of both breast and heart health and schedule appointments for underserved women to participate in our screening and wellness days to receive mammograms and heart screenings right in their own neighborhoods.

Volunteers help us to reach at-risk women through our Door-to-Door Outreach campaigns. All outreach events are on Saturdays from 8:30am-12:30pm. Volunteers receive training, a light breakfast, lunch and a WBHI t-shirt. All volunteers must be at least 18 years of age and register prior to their selected outreach date.

Our April 2020 Door to Door Outreach Campaign will be conducted in the City of Hollywood on April 4th, 11th and 18th. When you register for an Outreach Campaign date(s), we will provide you with the meeting location information.

Mission Statement

The Women's Breast & Heart Initiative, Florida Affiliate (WBHI) is a non-profit organization dedicated to educating women about the importance of breast health and heart health by providing breast health awareness, education, screening and referrals as an in-kind mobile neighborhood outreach to the medically underserved in an effort to beat breast cancer and heart disease as life threatening diseases, one household at a time.

Description

For WBHI to carry out its mission and realize its vision, grassroots volunteer manpower is required. During each neighborhood outreach, dedicated volunteer teams stress the importance of breast health, women of each household are identified, health insurance status is verified, every home where a woman resides is given an informational package containing valuable breast heath and heart health information. Appointments are then made for women over the age of 40 that qualify for a mammogram and heart screenings through the mobile mammography van in their neighborhood.

Each door-to-door campaign is performed on Saturday mornings.

For the Outreach Campaigns, volunteers meet at 8:30AM for a briefing and continental breakfast. As a group, we then go to the area to be served. The actual outreach is generally completed in approximately one hour. After the door-to-door campaign is completed, the volunteers return back to the specified location to return the results of the outreach and enjoy a light lunch. All volunteers are asked to attend a brief volunteer training. Each volunteer is provided with and asked to wear the standard WBHI shirt. Comfortable pants and shoes are encouraged. Our dedicated volunteer teams operate in teams of three and visit approximately 30 homes per team.
