ORGANIZATION: Washington State Animal Response Team (WASART)

The WASART Treasurer is an unpaid volunteer executive member of the Board of Directors responsible for overseeing the management and reporting of WASART's finances. Residence in Washington or Oregon necessary because of need to attend monthly BOD meetings in WA.

The Treasurer has many important duties including:

  • Bank account maintenance - Selecting a bank, signing checks, and investing excess funds wisely in coordination with the Board
  • Financial transaction oversight - Being knowledgeable about who has access to the organization’s funds, and any outstanding bills or debts owed, as well as developing systems for keeping cash flow manageable
  • Financial activities - Collect, receive and deposit all monies due to and belonging to WASART, and pay all bills, claims or rewards after determining that proper documentation for expenditure is on hand and expenditure is for appropriate and necessary WASART business. The Treasurer shall maintain clear, concise and accurate account of all receipts and disbursements. Records shall be made available on a quarterly basis at the general meeting and upon request at any Board of Directors meeting. The Treasurer shall ensure timely renewal of WASART credit card accounts for any auto-pay accounts into which WASART has entered
  • Budgets - Developing the annual budget as well as comparing the actual revenues and expenses incurred against the budget
  • Financial Policies - Overseeing the development and observation of the organization's financial policies
  • Reports and Statements - Keeping the board regularly informed of key financial events, trends, concerns, and assessment of fiscal health in addition to completing required financial reporting forms in a timely fashion and making these forms available to the board. Treasurer shall prepare an annual Profit & Loss Statement for the Board’s review at the Board meeting in January of the subsequent year This also includes responsibility for the financial overview of the WASART Annual Report.
  • Auditing - The Treasurer shall prepare all required Federal and State reports and forms for timely approval by the WASART Board and shall file the aforementioned reports as specified by law. He/she shall maintain open books subject to examination at any time and assist auditors in completing any required audit.
  • Finance Committee - Serving as Chair of the Finance Committee to lead all other committee heads in the development of budget and expenditures

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree with emphasis in accounting, bookkeeping, finance and investments
  • Two (2) years of experience in bookkeeping and investing OR any equivalent of education and experience. Experience with nonprofit accounting is a significant asset
  • Two (2) years of QuickBooks experience with intermediate or advanced skills
  • Working knowledge of modern bookkeeping and accounting practices and procedures
  • Ability to coordinate the work of others; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Board members, volunteers, other agencies, and the public
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions; ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing

WASART (Washington State Animal Response Team) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit all-volunteer organization that helps companion animals and livestock out of immediate crisis and dangerous situations. For example, if your horse falls into a well or your dog falls over a cliff, or your community needs help sheltering animals for short term issues such as threat of fire and other disasters, WASART is highly trained and available to assist, across the entire state of WA.
