Colors of Hope

Steps of Love orphanages is growing and is looking for active volunteers that drive such growth. After one year of operation, we serve two orphanages and over 40 children located in the cities of Sonoyta and Rocky Point in Mexico.

The Community Outreach Coordinator is a volunteer position that requires:

- An individual who is fluent in both English and Spanish. Knowledge of the Mexican culture is preferred.

- Willingness to travel frequently to Sonoyta, Mexico - a 3-hour drive from Phoenix. Travel expenses are covered by the organization.

- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to network with local Mexican community leaders, building long-lasting relationships.

- Fundraising knowledge, or willingness to learn from our fundraising team, in order to increase the level of local financial support from Mexican partners.

This is an excellent opportunity to not only make a difference in the lives of children in Mexico but also to build your professional resume and increase your professional network both in the US and in Mexico.

Mission Statement

Steps of Love is a U.S. based nonprofit with a mission to help youth in Mexico break the cycle of poverty by facilitating access to opportunities for a quality education. Steps of Love partners with a Mexican civil association, that focuses on supporting young people whose families lack the resources to send them to school and ensure they succeed academically.

Description

Unlike in the United States, public school in Mexico is not free. Beginning in high school students have to pay for registration, tuition and fees, books, uniforms and transportation. Students in younger grades must pay for all school supplies, transportation and special activities.

In addition to these direct educational expenses, families face a variety of other barriers preventing their children from attending school and succeeding academically. Barriers can include a lack of academic support in the home, as well as the inability to meet basic needs such as food, shelter and access to medical care.
