About Seeds to Sew International Inc

Location:

16 Seminary Avenue, HOPEWELL, NJ 08525, US

Mission Statement

Seeds to Sew International is a non-profit organization with the mission of improving the lives of women and girls in disadvantaged communities through education and job skills training. Our goal is for the women girls in our programs to use these job skills to make money and support themselves, their families and communities.

Description

Since its inception in 2010, Seeds to Sew has raised funds to build a dormitory for the Kakenya School for Excellence in Enoosaen, Kenya. In 2011, we launched our Enkiteng Program to teach basic sewing and business skills enabling women in rural Kenya to support themselves and their communities; and the Enkisoma Program allowing young Kenyan girls and their mothers to bead jewelry as a way to pay for school fees. In the following years, we expanded both programs into two Kenyan farming communities serving over 120 women and children and fully funding school fees for 24 girls in our Enkisoma program. Additionally, we launched the Githomo Program in Mt. Kenya area, to help a group of girls in the area stay in school. In 2016, we also began collaborating with Global Connections Kenya, to launch a sewing and knitting cooperative with women in Nyamira County. In 2017, we became a proud member of the prestigious Fair Trade Federation!

Here in America, we are actively involved with schools and universities to raise awareness about the challenges that women and girls face in the developing countries and how our choices here at home impact communities a world away. We are also continuing to develop the market for the products our participants make as a way to provide income, pay for school fees and provide seed funding for their future initiatives.
