Come help with ecological restoration in the Shell Ridge Open Space. We will work on site preparation, weeding, watering, seed collecting, and planting. Learn how to plant native grasses, wildflowers and other plants around the pond while learning about the native plants and wildlife in our Open Space. We will discuss how you can use these planting techniques for native plants in your own garden. The opportunity also provide a chance to see what other work has been completed and what future plans will bring. Gloves, water bottle, hat, hiking boots. Feel free to bring along any tool that you are comfortable planting with if you like. It can get muddy, so make sure that you wear clothes and shoes that are ok to get dirty, boots are even better.

The Walnut Creek Open Space Foundation works to preserve and enhance Walnut Creek's 2700 acres of open space and to educate area residents so that they can enjoy this wonderful resource.
Description
Our primary activity is doing habitat restoration in the Walnut Creek Open Space. We have ongoing projects at Bayberry Pond, Rock Oak, Indian Valley Pond, Deer Lake, and Fossil Hill. We do occasional work in other locations in the Open Space.
We also have a native plant nursery where we propagate many of the plants we use in our restoration projects.
When opportunities arise, we work to acquire additional open space lands.
