Through civic engagement, training and mentorship, underserved young adults in Newark, NJ will develop employability skills and move closer to their college and career goals.
We are seeking professionals, like you, to participate as volunteer Success Coaches.
Who is a Success Coach?
Experienced professionals and community members who possess college and career experience and are willing to share this with Service Scholars.
Success Coach Position Description
What will I do as a Success Coach?
- The Success Coach will work with Service Scholars in small groups and one-on-one throughout the cohort to assist Service Scholars identify and accomplish their goals.
- These meetings will consist of a combination of exercises, activities, working sessions and conversations occurring primarily in groups of 2-4, that lead to defined targets and outcomes, including completing a resume, job or college applications.
- Another key element of success coaching is the encouragement and accountability partnership that volunteers provide. The coaching relationship will help Service Scholars to envision what can result when professional networks are successful.
- Reiterate skills training concepts facilitated by other volunteers.
- Assist Service Scholars in translating Service Leadership into marketable experience.
- Recommending supplemental workshops and other resources to fill skill/knowledge gaps.
What is the average time commitment for a Success Coach?
A Success Coach will designate three hours each week to a group of Service Scholars over the duration of a cohort, typically an 8 - 12 week commitment. However, this will vary by Service Scholar.

ServiceWorks - powered by AmeriCorps, the Citi Foundation, and Points of Light - is a groundbreaking, national program that uses volunteer service as a strategy to help 25,000 low-income young adults in 10 U.S. cities develop the skills they need to prepare for college and careers
We share the belief that civic engagement and service leadership can be a pathway to success.
ServiceWorks will demonstrate that service can be an effective strategy to level the playing field for underserved young people, not only by decreasing the opportunity gaps they face but by increasing the likelihood that they will stay in school and find good jobs.
Note: This volunteer opportunity requires a criminal background check, at no cost to you. Also, for planning purposes this training has a registration cutoff time of 72 hours.
