Please visit us at www.vickery-meadow-summer-academy.com to discover the many ways you can be an essential element of our Summer Reading Academy July 7 through August 4, 2016 mornings only, Tuesdays, Wednesday and Thursdays. We need loving classroom Adult Tutors, and Youth Leaders to manage logistics of our 150 student Academy of immigrants and refugees ages 5-12. If you are seriously interested in becoming a VMSRA Adult Tutor or Youth Leader, please continue. PLEASE DO NOT SIGN UP IF YOU ARE NOT A SERIOUS CANDIDATE. WHEN RESPONDING, PLEASE BE SURE TO STATE YOUR AGE, INCLUDE YOUR CELL #, A PHOTO AND BRIEF BIO! WE NEED THE BEST WHO RISE ABOVE ALL THE REST!
Volunteers are needed to tutor 170+ children ages 5 to 11 who are new to the
U.S. and are having challenges reading and writing in English.
Volunteer Activity: Helping a classroom of ten students learn basic alphabet, phonics, reading and writing skills
Where: Jack Lowe Elementary, 7000 Holly Hill, Dallas, 75231
When: July 7 through August 4, 2016 mornings only, Tuesdays, Wednesday and Thursdays 7am (Youth Leaders) and 8am (Adult Leaders) to 12noon
How: All learning materials will be provided for you, plus quick and easy training on how to use them
Qualifications: No prior teaching experience is needed; volunteer must complete a DISD volunteer background check at https://www2.dallasisd.org/partners/volreg_form.cfm and present form prior to beginning to volunteer

Friends of McShan Elementary School are members of the community-at-large, and parents whose main purpose is to improve student academic achievement.
Description
We know that effective instruction makes the most difference in student academic performance; we steadfastly beiieve there is no excuse for poor quality instruction; we practice that, with our help, at-risk students will achieve at the same rate as non at-risk students; and we hold our staff members to their commitment to children and a commitment to the pursuit of excellence.
