First of all, the link to the Kosovo Kindergarten project for which we're currently fundraising on GlobalGiving might be a bit misleading, as we're an organisation who works on education at all levels. We are working on a kindergarten (due to open early November!) but the lesson plans we need now are for elementary school (roughly ages 7-9). The community where they would be implemented is the same though - with the same shocking educational statistics (96% of the community do not complete compulsory education) and poverty. We have about 100 pupils of this age who attend activities at our learning centre every Saturday , and we want to use the opportunity to teach them about the importance of protecting cultural heritage - in a country where there are few laws to protect old buildings, and those that exist are not implemented.

We need someone to write between 2 and 4 lesson plans for twenty minute learning activities that we could teach to these children about the importance of looking after your cultural heritage. The children are taught in groups of about 15 and our volunteer teachers would be able to translate the lessons into Albanian (the language of instruction).

We hope that this is an opportunity for someone with education skills and experience to share those with children in the poorest community in the poorest country in Europe - but without even having to travel from your keyboard (if you want to travel further than that then see our other volunteering opportunities as we always need people who are able to come to Kosovo and offer English teaching). Perhaps it's a good starting point for someone interested in developing curricula, or interested in thinking about non-formal education in developing countries, but not yet ready/ able to work abroad.

If you think you can help with this, please send us a brief CV to our office email address. For this opportunity we will work with the first person (or maximum two people) who have the relevant skills and who get in touch with us.

About GlobalGiving

Location:

Mission Statement

Build an efficient, open, thriving marketplace that connects people who have community and world-changing ideas with people who can support them.

Description

GlobalGiving was founded by two former World Bank executives who decided to use the Internet to create a highly efficient marketplace. The GlobalGiving platform enables more funding to reach projects throughout the globe, and, at the same time, provides a more transparent, engaging way for donors to give.
Because we enable donors to give directly to projects, they know exactly where their money is going. Donors can see progress updates on most projects as funding is received and goals are met.

Donations made through GlobalGiving are higher impact because:

  • Money is going directly to a well-defined project versus supporting general operating expenses
  • Projects on globalgiving.com have exposure to thousands of donors, enabling us to aggregate multiple sources of funding for each project
  • Many projects on globalgiving.com are located in the developing world where a little money goes a long way
