External Affairs Internship Winter 2015 Christopher House seeks a dynamic and detail-oriented intern interested in gaining behind-the-scenes experience in the communications, fundraising and operations of a non-profit organization. The Christopher House External Affairs Internship is an ideal opportunity to learn the ins and outs of a non-profit serving over 4,000 low-income Chicago children and families annually, while developing critical writing, research, marketing, and fundraising skills. The External Affairs intern has the opportunity to work with the supportive five-person External Affairs team and will gain valuable experience in the administration of a non-profit organization. The Intern will attain a broadened understanding of the organizational importance of development to Christopher House as a whole. The intern will also gain insight and experience with the inner workings of the organization, as well as familiarity with its programming and initiatives. This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in working in non-profit communications or development sectors. This is not a direct service position, if you want to work with clients (children and others enrolled in Christopher House programming), then this is not the internship for you. The position is based out of Christopher House’s administrative offices in Wicker Park. RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: Research relevant articles, donors, grant opportunities Assist with planning of the annual benefit and auction Create and update web pages in NetCommunity Visit sites/events/programs to assist in documenting for communication use - interviews/photographs/video Assist with writing and compilation of agency newsletters and other media Research and draft social media posts Participate in volunteer/student events Help with planning and coordinating of special events Provide administrative support Update fundraising database ( Raiser’s Edge) Other responsibilities as assigned - no two days are ever the same! QUALIFICATIONS: Strong attention to detail required Excellent writing, communication, and research skills Interested in non-profit management and/or fundraising, communications Motivated, self-starter Ability to work well within a team Proficiency in MS office Commitment to Christopher House’s mission Currently enrolled in undergraduate program preferred Previous internships at non-profit organizations a plus Experience with video editing a plus TIME COMMITMENT: Our working hours are 9am-5pm; Mon-Fri. The internship is flexible on days and times - we are looking for a 15-25 hour/week with a minimum 3-month commitment. Some events will fall outside working hours.
