Title: Enrollment Assistant Volunteer
Purpose: You will be a part of a terrific team of volunteers and staff who are providing outreach and enrollment assistance to those eligible through Cover Oregon’s online health insurance portal.
Responsibilities:
- Phone calls to patients, data entry, with Protected Health Information.
- Screen, listen, answer, and document concerns and questions of potential Cover Oregon applicants.
- Provide information to individuals about available medical care and social service resources through local, state, and federal agencies, Coalition clinics, and other community partners.
- Provide regular reporting to supervisor regarding interviews, problems, submitted applications, accepted applications, application renewals and other reporting as requested.
- Outreach and education to uninsured and potential Medicaid members about Cover Oregon health plans and the benefits of having/using health insurance. Distribute project marketing and informational materials.
- Set appointments with applicants and help them gather required documentation to process the Cover Oregon application.
Timeframe:
Length of commitment: minimum 5 months
Estimated total hours: minimum of 1 volunteer shift per week
(approx. 16 hours)
Volunteer Shift: Mon - Fri 9:00-5:00pm
WMC Training Required:
- HIPPA Training
- Health Literacy Webinar
- Safety Training
Requirements:
- Must be 18 years old.
- GED or High School Diploma.
- Submit to WMC’s background check
- Strong in-person and phone customer service skills.
- Experience working with ethnic, racial, economic and sexually diverse populations.
- Verbal fluency in Spanish, Russian, Vietnamese, or a Chinese language preferred.
- Computer and keyboard proficiency using Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook).

WMC is a nonprofit, volunteer staffed, free health clinic for people without health insurance and money to pay for care. Through the efforts of over 300 medical volunteers and the financial support of local individuals, businesses and foundations The Wallace Medical Concern cares for nearly 6000 people a year. WMC gets them back to work, school and caring for their families.
