ORGANIZATION: Harlem Educational Activities Fund (HEAF)

Harlem Educational Activities Fund seeks for Math Tutors to commit to work with high school students who are struggling to meet HEAF's academic standards. Tutors will assist students with their mathematic subjects, monitor progress and report progress to program staff.

HEAF is an effective supplemental education and youth leadership nonprofit that works to help high-potential but underserved New York City public school students become high-achieving college graduates. HEAF identifies scholars in middle school and supports them until they are successfully admitted to four-year colleges through a variety of after-school, Saturday, summer, and youth development programs. In the last 15 years, 100% of our students have graduated from high school and 83% of our students have received a degree from college within six years or less.

The College Quest Department at HEAF is looking for 6 volunteers’ academic Mathematic tutors. Tutors will assist high school students in 9th-12th grade to complete and understand their Math school-works and related projects, and help them study for Math exam, AP exams and General H.S Test Prep.

Qualifications /Requirements

Tutors must be current college students, college graduates, or graduate students preferably needing college credit or community service /volunteer/internship hours. Graduate student candidates must be in an education or related field.

Has a personal interest in education and youth development. Patient and personable with youth.

Candidates must be highly motivated able to adapt to and teach various students learning styles, knowledgeable in subject content and flexible.

Time Commitment 1 day minimum requirement (Monday - Thursday), but availability for 2 or more days highly preferred.

Volunteers are expected to commit from 4pm-6:30pm (2.5 hours a day) January 2015 to May 2015.
