ORGANIZATION: Neighborhood Housing Services of Richmond, Inc.

Neighborhood Housing Services of Richmond, Inc. (NHSR) will host Empower Yourself Against Default. We need your help to assist us as we help all the participants on the day of the event. Volunteers will help participants by:

  • Directing them to counselors and bank representatives throughout the day.
  • Assist participants find their seats in waiting area.
  • Hand out print material and other documents
  • Helping to setup and breakdown
  • Enjoy a day knowing that they are helping families stay in their homes for holiday.
There will be a special meeting of all potential volunteers on Wednesday November 5, 2014 at 5pm. We have special assignments and it is very important you have your instructions before the day of the event.

Empower Yourself Against Default is a revolutionizing initiative by NHSR designed to be a valuable resource that provides trustworthy assistance to helping individuals purchase and keep their homes. This new initiative, in partnership with the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC).

This opportunity is a referral and is managed by Neighborhood Housing Services of Richmond directly. Please express interest below to indicate to the agency your interest in participating.

All volunteers who plan to attend must express interest, either as an individual, or via the team functionality.

Description

Credit Counseling: Neighborhood Housing Services of Richmond, Inc certified credit counselors provide private, one-on-one counseling sessions to help clients develop a plan of action to overcome financial challenges and gain a better understanding of their credit.

Pre Purchase Education: Neghborhood Housing Services of Richmond, Inc's Financial Fitness classes help future homebuyers overcome credit obstacles and master the concept of money. In our Homebuyer Education classes, "Fastrack" students learn the basics of the home buying process such as selecting a home and understanding the mortgage process. Our HomeBuyer's Club is a long-term peer support program designed to help families fully prepare to purchase a homel

Lending: Neighborhood Housing Services of Richmond, Inc has the unique ability to meet the financial needs of a wide array of potential homeowners. We are able to originate all of the most propular residential mortgage loan products, individually tailored for each homebuyer. Options include down payment and closing costs assistance.

Post Purchase Education: In our Post-Purchase classes, homeowners brush up on financial concepts and learn new tips on topics such as insurance, refinancing, predatory lending practices, and avoiding delinquency and foreclosure.

Foreclosure Prevention: Our housing counselors are available to provide counseling solutions for homeowners facing an immediate crisis.

Resident Leadership Training: Through our national partnership with Neighborhood Housing Services of Richmond, Inc provides unique training experiences to emerging and established leaders who are working in our local communities. These activities challenge leaders to implement concrete plans for positive change.
