Join us on November 1 in the oak woodlands and bluff prairie near the Mississippi River, part of a natural area owned by 3M-Cottage Grove being restored in partnership with Friends of the Mississippi River.
Alongside FMR Ecologist Joe Walton and River Stewardship Coordinator Adam Flett, volunteers will learn about, explore and then help restore a rare remnant bluff prairie. A remnant prairie is one that has never been plowed -- a surviving parcel of the larger, original landscape of our region. Volunteers will primarily haul cut brush, primarily buckthorn, and remove encroaching honeysuckle. This will help preserve the prairie and benefit the native plants that benefit our local wildlife and waters. No experience is required and all supplies -- including a pizza lunch -- will be provided.

Mission Statement
Friends of the Mississippi River (FMR) engages people to protect, restore and enhance the Mississippi River and its watershed in the Twin Cities region.
Description
Friends of the Mississippi River is proud to work with roughly 3,000 volunteers annually.
We keep volunteering simple, fun and satisfying -- there are no applications, and you can sign up for one event or several. We list events especially in need of volunteers here on VolunteerMatch.com, but maintain a full calendar of 60+ events a year at www.fmr.org/events.
Our project work includes conservation and restoration of natural areas and habitat, education on watershed protection issues, and organizing activities that connect the public to the Mississippi River.
