5k Volunteer Opportunities:

Every season Girls on the Run - DC relies on over 150 volunteers to make our celebratory 5K a success. We depend on volunteers to serve as greeters, course marshals, manage the start and finish line, water stops, and much more. We have a job for everyone that wants to help. Be part of building more strength, confidence, and joy in our GOTR participants so that they can make a difference tomorrow.

Details About Race Day:

The race will be held at Anacostia Park. Volunteer opportunities start at 8 a.m. unless otherwise noted. Please plan to arrive at 7:45am. The Girls on the Run - DC 5K officially starts at 10 a.m.

There is NO parking in the park - only in the Anacostia Metro parking garage. If you try to drive into Anacostia Park you will be turned away. National Park Service Police will close the park entrances at 6:00am. Your best option is to use metro to travel to the GOTR- DC 5K.

What is Girls on the Run?

Girls on the Run is an Independent Council of Girls on the Run International , which has a network of 200 locations across the United States and Canada.

Girls on the Run is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to creating a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams.

Running is used to inspire and motivate girls, encourage lifelong health and fitness, and build confidence through accomplishment. At each season's conclusion, the girls and their running buddies complete a 5k running event. Completing a 5k gives the girls a tangible sense of achievement as well as a framework for setting and achieving life goals. The result--making the seemingly impossible, possible and teaching girls that they can.

Mission Statement

Girls on the Run is a life-changing, character development program for girls in 3rd through 8th grade. Our mission is to educate and prepare girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living.

Description

Girls on the Run-DC is an independent council of Girls on the Run International, founded in 1996, by Molly Barker, a visionary, Ironman triathlete. Today, there are nearly 170 locations across the U.S. & Canada, with new locations added each year. Girls on the Run combines training for a 5K (3.1 miles) event with healthy living education. We use exercise, positive reinforcement, and encouraging role models to help girls discover the confidence they need in the critical pre-teen years and beyond.
