BE A SCIENTIST FOR A DAY AT THE NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM! We need your help with two exciting Citizen Science projects this SATURDAY, OCTOBER 25, 9AM - 1PM!

We'll be collecting scientific data on spiders and Monarch butterflies in the Museum’s gardens. We'll be using our Nature Gardens as a field site by adding specimens to the NHM Los Angeles Spider Survey by collecting and identifying spiders. We will also work with the Southwest Monarch Study to tag Monarch butterflies and test them for parasites.

Don’t know anything about spiders or monarchs? No problem, we’ll provide you with all the training you need. We will introduce a variety of spider and butterfly capture techniques that you can also use in your own backyard. You will also go home with a few monarch tags to continue your participation in the Southwest Monarch Study. After we finish collecting the data, we’ll enjoy light refreshments as we reflect on the day’s activities.

Volunteers need to be at least 18 years old, be able to pay attention to detail, and to stretch, bend, kneel, and be outdoors with minimal shelter for approximately 3 hours.
